Easter artifacts

My mom saves lots of stuff.

When we visited St. Joe in November 2010, she handed me the two items in the photo.

As you might be able to tell, one item is my childhood Easter basket - sure, the colors have faded a bit and a couple of the bands are breaking, but this is still a fine, serviceable basket after 50+ years. The absence of a handle is a feature, not a bug. I would be proud to load this with candy any Easter.

As to the faded yellow blob sitting in front of the basket - time hasn't been so kind. Believe it or not, this wreck once was the most charismatic Easter trinket in our house, hands down. His name was Chicky-go-gok-gok (the last two syllables rhyme with "clock") (gender not really known but we considered this to be a male). Now it looks more like a deformed, yellowed cotton ball than an Easter chick. I can't explain the severe deterioration. Sometimes these kinds of Easter basket stuffers were utilized when we played with our other toys, but still.

Anyway - it's fun getting these things from my mom. Happy Easter.
